Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Tuesday sympathized with Morocco and Libya — two North African nations — reeling under recent earthquake and deadly floods.
Equating the tragedies to "what happened recently in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in (Brazil)," da Silva shared his thoughts and prayers with the victims and their families.
Marking his return to the U.N. General Assembly for the first time since 2009, the Brazilian leader also emphasized the need to end poverty and hunger.
"Reducing inequality within countries requires including the poor in national budgets and making the rich pay taxes proportional to their wealth,” he said.
