Zambia Liberties Union Urges Citizenship For Refugees
The Zambian Civil Liberties Union is calling on the government to grant citizenship to refugees in line with the country’s constitution. It says a person who was born in or has continuously lived in Zambia for 10 years and has attained the age of 18 is entitled to register as a citizen. Maurice Makalu, executive director of the Zambian Civil Liberties Union, tells VOA’s James Butty, the country’s nearly 87,000 refugees make various contributions to the nation and that Zambia loses by denying them citizenship.
