Candice Chirwa, founder and director of Qrate, created her organization to empower and educate young girls in South Africa about menstrual health through interactive workshops. VOA’s Auriane Itangishaka alongside her co-hosts Amina Aliyu, Simegnish Yekoye and Ndimyake Mwakalyelye spoke to Candice also known as “The Minister of Menstruation”, about how she is working to demystify menstrual taboos and dismantle stigmas and period poverty in her country. She also emphasizes the importance of having an open dialogue about periods and the accessibility of adequate menstrual products.
