South Sudanese activists and social media users were outraged last week when photos of a 17-year-old girl from Warrap State surfaced on social media with reports that her father had allegedly gouged out both of her eyes over her refusal to accept an arranged marriage. The father, who is a police officer, has been reportedly arrested and will be arraigned in court, according to state authorities. Riya Williams Yuyada, the executive director at Crown the Woman South Sudan, which provides support to victims of domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence, tells VOA's Nabeel Biajo justice must be done for the 17-year-old girl.
