As South Sudanese mark the 40th anniversary of the start of the war that led to the country’s independence, some citizens in the capital Juba are expressing mixed views about whether or not the liberation struggle achieved its objectives. Some say that with independence, the SPLM/SPLA liberated its people from marginalization by successive military regimes in Khartoum. However, other citizens say though it achieved independence for the country, the SPLM/SPLA has failed to address the problems facing the country including insecurity.
