President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Tuesday South Africa will hold national elections on May 29. The elections come as Africa’s most developed economy faces a myriad of problems under the ruling African National Congress. Polls show the ruling ANC could lose its majority for the first time since it came to power with the fall of apartheid 30 years ago. Phumlani Majozi, an author and a macroeconomic and political analyst, tells VOA’s Douglas Mpuga that this election is crucial given the dire state of the country now.
