This week’s decrees by Sudan's army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to dissolve the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and repeal the law that established the military arm in 2017, present several legal and procedural complications, according to Sudanese legal expert Salman Mohamed Salman. Salman, who authored a book on the origin and evolution of the paramilitary force and serves as the chairman of the University of Khartoum Council, asserts that the decision will prove difficult to enforce and may escalate the ongoing violence between the army and the paramilitaries, thereby complicating the prospects for negotiating a peaceful settlement. He spoke to VOA's Nabeel Biajo.
