Kenya says it is delaying the planned deployment of at least 1,000 police officers to Haiti to fight gang violence. This follows an announcement by Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry that he would resign. Kenya’s principal secretary at the foreign affairs ministry, Korir Sing’oei, was quoted Tuesday as saying there had been a fundamental change in circumstances in Haiti because of the complete breakdown of law and order” there. Kenyan constitutional lawyer Paul Mwangi tells VOA’s Douglas Mpuga that despite all the hurdles, the Kenyan government may still deploy in the island nation.
