Jostle For Liberia’s House Speaker Intensifies
update
In Liberia, as the transition from the outgoing George Weah government to the incoming Joseph Boakai administration continues, the battle for Speaker of the House of Representatives is heating up. Jonathan Fonati Koffa is one of three candidates vying for the post. He has been the Deputy Speaker for the past three years. The speakership contest is taking place under the cloud of recent US sanctions against two senators for allegedly offering or receiving bribes to manipulate legislative processes and public funding. Koffa tells VOA’s James Butty, if he becomes the next speaker, he will accelerate legislative reform to make the body more accountable to the public.
