With relative calm reported in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and other parts of the country, humanitarian organizations are scrambling to provide much needed assistance to millions of Sudanese affected by the weeks-long conflict between Sudan Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. Alyona Synenco, regional spokesperson for Africa at the Kenya-based International Committee of the Red Cross, says while humanitarians are cautiously optimistic about the hiatus in fighting, there’s an immense need to provide basic services. She tells VOA health, water, and electricity services are needed after a near-total collapse in Khartoum and other states across Sudan.
