This lively episode includes great tunes from the 1990s, a vintage tune “Kipenze Cha Mama” from 1984 by the late Marijani Rajab (Tanzania); and a lineup of current, killer songs from Sierra Leone, Namibia, Ghana, Algeria, Morocco and Nigeria. Two guests join me in the studio; Kwame Ofori for Song of the Week “Take Me Back” by Reynolds the Gentleman (Ghana) and David Vandy, Host of VOA's African Beat weekly radio show. David introduces traditional Sierra Leonean singer/guitarist Bobby female rising star Ejatu.Today's feature interview is Kenyan female singer/songwriter and guitarist Nina Ogot. Reporter Bill Odidi interviews her from Nairobi where she recently released her new album Dala. We get to hear samples of a few of the songs and the meaning behind them, and Nina speaks about the mood and the concept of the album: modernity.
