The Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, Thursday ordered the activation of its standby force for possible intervention in Niger, amid reports of threats by the country's junta to kill deposed President Mohamed Bazoum after military intervention. For more, VOA’s Carol Van Dam spoke to Michael Shurkin, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council and an expert on the Sahel, who said that he doesn’t believe a deployment will happen anytime soon.
