Zimbabwe’s Opposition Calls For Robust Cholera Fight
The leader of Zimbabwe’s main opposition Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) says the country needs an escalated and concerted approach to deal with the latest cholera epidemic. The government says about 20,000 people have been affected, and more than 370 have died from the outbreak. Nelson Chamisa’s comments come almost a week after President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson, George Charamba, suggested that the President invoke executive powers and take over the Harare City Council which is led by a CCC mayor. Chamisa’s triple C has been experiencing internal strife since August’s general elections. Chamisa tells VOA’s James Butty, fighting cholera should not be about scoring cheap political points.
