Britain passes bill to send asylum seekers to Rwanda
Britain will pay at least $460 million to Rwanda as part of its plan to relocate asylum seekers there. The British Parliament yesterday passed legislation that will make it possible for the government to send those who enter the country illegally to Rwanda to have their asylum requests processed. The bill is a victory for Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Alex Vines, who leads the Africa Program at Chatham House, a British foreign policy institute, and is managing director for risk, ethics and resilience, told me that come November, the Labor Party -- which opposes the Rwanda Bill -- could assume power.
