Nigeria Labor Congress Delays Subsidy Strike

Nigeria’s Minister of Labor and Employment says government and the Trade Union Congress have agreed that there should be no strike action for the next two weeks while the government works on addressing workers’ grievances. The Trade Union Congress and Labor Congress have been holding nationwide protests over the suspension of a fuel subsidy and are demanding a new minimum wage for civil servants. This week, they called for a two-day warning strike. Minister of Labor and Employment Solomon LaLong says the government met with representatives of the Trade Union Congress on Tuesday, and the union agreed to give the government two weeks to address some of their grievances.
